Ed Mercer
Middle/High School Teacher
Ed Mercer is joining the Lexis team as a Middle and High School Math teacher, having spent the last four years teaching Math at the Tesseract School in Paradise Valley. Ed has also taught math at Dutchess County Community College in New York State.

Ed received his undergraduate degree from the State University at Cortland, NY, and his graduate degree in Connecticut at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury. During his career, he has taught math, science, music, co-directed Middle School musical theatre productions and coached basketball, soccer and baseball. In addition to being in the classroom for many years, Ed has also been an Independent School administrator. He deeply values the connections he makes with colleagues and students, and brings a sense of humor to his classes, as well. He plays guitar, sings and has been known to write children’s songs. He believes strongly that children must be afforded many opportunities to make guided choices early in their lives and then through reflection, consider the impact of those choices. He believes that this practice provides experience, which leads to perspective and then ultimately, to wisdom.

Ed has two beautiful grown girls, both of whom were adopted, and four incredible grandchildren. When not working, Ed can be found playing his guitar and writing songs. He also enjoys gardening when the Arizona temperatures cooperate with this passion.
