Amy Nilsen
Upper Elementary Teacher

Amy joined the Lexis team in August, 2015, following 12 years of teaching special education in the Poway School District in California. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Special Education from Northern Arizona University and a Master of Arts in Special Education from National University.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Amy took on the role of Character Counts Week Chair, as well as the Student Leadership Team Coordinator. Character education is at the core of her teaching philosophy. Her lessons are developed with the whole child in mind because she believes teaching the whole child fosters more gains both socially and academically. She believes it is never too early to expose students to a college mindset, helping them understand that the education learned today will be used in the future.

Amy also has her Yoga teaching certificate for Children's Yoga and works to include its practice within her classroom.

When not at Lexis, Amy is chasing after her son, enjoying family time, watching sports and trying to squeeze in yoga whenever she can. She is thrilled to be a part of the Lexis team.
